Outdoor Learning
A welcome email from our Outdoor Learning teacher, Miss Hughes:
The outdoors is calling and it is filled with endless possibilities for fun, learning and wondering. Imagine exploring under the trees as the seasons change, tasting fruit and vegetables from an edible garden, discovering fascinating creatures in the pond area, following a spiral pathway to a secret bird hide in a quiet area, watching the flowers bloom in a pollinator garden or experiencing the wonder of watching a lizard bask in the sun. Yes, with your help this is all possible at your school! It is time to take on the challenge to create an outdoor space for the whole of our Repton Manor family to learn and grow in. Are you ready to join me?
As the seasons change you will experience new things and make stronger connections with the natural world. You will become eco-change makers who are passionate about protecting nature and you will gain inspiration from the world around you to support you in all areas of your learning.
There will be a photographic record of your time learning outside and sometimes you will write short notes or draw a sketch to explain what you have experienced in your class nature journal. This work may look different to the work you do in your classroom but this doesn’t mean you haven’t been learning! Our natural world cabin will be bursting with a record of your discoveries and you will feel
proud of your achievements each time you visit. Get ready to show me how independent, observant, curious and creative you can be inside and outside of our natural world cabin!
One of the most delightful things about nature is the excitement and anticipation it provides. Do you remember the excitement of checking to see if our first tadpole had turned into a tiny froglet? With that in mind, here is a sneak peak of the plans for the year ahead.
By Christmas we will have begun creating our spiral pathway to a secret bird hide and prepared festive treats to help our wildlife through the Winter.
By Easter we will have made some important decisions about what to grow in our pollinator garden. Will you choose a sunflower or a snapdragon?
By the end of the year you will see the difference that you have made to the natural world and we will find a way to celebrate this together.
So grab your favourite wellington boots, put on your hats and get ready to explore this amazing world around you. Let’s hope Larry the lizard and lots of marvellous moths make an appearance again!
One last thing, remember to look for nature wherever you go...you never know what you might discover!
