Year 5 and 6 John Muir Award

Our Year 5 and 6 children will be working with Pete this term to complete the John Muir Award.

What is the John Muir Award?

The John Muir Award is a fun and effective way to take learning outside, encourage discussions around sustainability and care for wild places – for children, young people and adults.

What will Year 5 and 6 be doing for the award?

Year 5 and 6 will be looking to complete the Discover Award.

Undertaking the award, each student will need to complete four challenges:

• Discover a wild place – Students will be shown the area and have the freedom to discover all of the different
  areas within the forest.
• Explore it - Students will have the opportunity to explore the area and learn about the different types of tree and
  animals that live in this environment.
• Conserve it – First and foremost, the aim of the area is to create an amazing habitat for mini beasts and for wildlife. The groups will learn about the different types of mini beasts that live there, whilst creating fantastic habitats for them to live in.
• Share it – All of the student’s families will be invited to come and see what has been achieved.
